Amadou And Mariam - Welcome To Mali

So as it happens the other album I missed out on came in at "number two" described as being influenced by Mariam's " childhood love of French pop and her husbands fondness of Jimmy Page". There are also some big names on it such as Damon Albarn producing the opener "Sabali".

Thanks SSFDL

Bon Iver - For Emma , Forever Ago

I gotta look at the Observer Music Monthly top 50 albums of 2008 and I must admit I had only listened to 7.5 of the top ten ( sorry Kanye, maybe you can have this post removed too! ) and the "number one" album of 2008 had passed me by after just a one listen back in the summer. Then as I read through the rest I saw Madrugada had not even made the top 50! Sorry Bon.

Madrugada - Madrugada

In case you missed it first time round!
I would love to see this band live but sadly after the tragic death of their guitarist Robert Buras they decided to finish recording this album and embark on a farewell tour. An album I started listening to last Jan and its still one of the first I line up.

Ive been catching up on the albums I missed out on this year but thankfully this was not one of them. An absolute cracker! I'm a bit sick that they play Dublin ( Dec 14th ) and I wont be around. Maybe another night will be added, a ticket would make a great Christmas present ;)
